Support

Four kinds of financial support are handled in the Pennsylvania family courts: spousal support, alimony pendente lite (APL), alimony, and child support.

Spousal Support

Spousal support is financial assistance for a spouse after separation, but before a divorce complaint has been filed.

Alimony Pendente Lite (APL)

Alimony pendente lite is financial assistance for a spouse after a divorce complaint has been filed, but before a divorce decree has been entered.

Alimony

Alimony is financial assistance for an ex-spouse after a divorce decree has been entered.

Child Support

Child support is financial assistance for a child regardless of the marital status of the parents.
